The area of greatest confusion in the field of nutrition is the failure to properly understand the symptoms that follow the commencement of a more healthy diet.

A better nutritional program is the introduction of higher quality foods in place of lower quality ones.

When the quality of the food coming into the body is of higher quality than the tissues, the body begins to discard the lower grade materials to make room for the superior, which it uses to create healthier tissues.

In some, but not all cases, there may be some temporary physical discomfort associated with the release and removal of these materials.

This process includes the elimination of toxins from the body.  Before these toxins reach their final destination, they register in our awareness as physical discomfort. Typically, within a few days the symptoms will disappear.

The toxins being discarded are saving you from more serious ailments, which will result if they remain in your body much longer. Recognize that these events are constructive, even though mildly unpleasant for the moment. The symptoms are part of a cleansing process.

Drinking the proper amount of water can reduce or even eliminate these symptoms entirely. The cleansing process does not affect some people at all ... if you are, STICK WITH IT - IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT!

Overcoming Hurdles

As you begin eating healthier, your body may need time to adjust to new amounts and types of foods. Most dieters don’t have any problems. They simply notice how much better they feel. But, as with any weight-loss plan, you may encounter an occasional bump in the road. These are some common problems experienced by any dieter and solutions.

*Energy - Sometimes when you’re on a diet, you may feel more tired as your body adjusts to less calories.

Solution: Eat every meal on time. Don’t skip meals, be
sure you are following your program as outlined and get
plenty of rest.

*Hunger - Occasionally, you may feel more hungry.  Are you really hungry or just craving certain foods? Are you eating the right amount of protein for your body’s needs?

Solution: Quite often your body will send signals that you
mistake for hunger, but  it may just be a signal to quench
your thirst. If you are truly hungry, make sure you eat a
healthy, low-calorie snack.

*Regularity - Do you have a change in your digestive functions? Is the problem constipation?

Solution: Try taking a fiber supplement each day and drinking
the proper amount of water.

Remember, all of these symptoms should be temporary, and will most likely go away as your body becomes accustomed to your new and healthier diet!
